Yellow Roof Foundation Receives Gift of 2.28 Acres in City of Pittsburg to Advance New Affordable Housing Community
November 19th, 2025

PITTSBURG, Calif. — Yellow Roof Foundation today announced it has received a private donation of 2.28 acres of land in the City of Pittsburg to support the creation of its next affordable housing community, Civic Station. The site, which is already entitled for 81 multi-family units, is significant to the 501(c)(3) public charity’s ongoing mission to provide safe, affordable housing for families and individuals at risk of homelessness. Based on the number of residences, Civic Station will be Yellow Roof’s largest community to date.

“Receiving this land is truly a milestone for us,” said Lori Sanson, Executive Director of Yellow Roof Foundation. “We are deeply grateful for this powerful support of our mission and the City of Pittsburg holds special significance for us, as it was the location of our first-ever Yellow Roof community. To be returning here with a new chapter of impact is beyond exciting.”

With the land secured, Yellow Roof has launched a Capital Campaign for Phase 1, which includes completion of construction documents, site development and the construction of the first 30 units. Design partners on the project include Carlon Barbee & Gibson, Inc.; DeNova Homes; SDG Architects; Stevens Ferrone & Baily; and vanderToolen Associates.

California continues to face a growing housing crisis—especially in the affordable sector—with countless hardworking individuals and families unable to access safe, stable homes. Through this new community in Pittsburg, Yellow Roof will continue ensuring that residents pay no more than 30 percent of their income on housing, while also benefiting from supportive programs such as financial planning and job-readiness training.

“Civic Station is an extraordinary opportunity to transform lives,” added Sanson. “With our design team’s expertise and the generosity of donors, we will make this new Yellow Roof community a place where hope and dignity are restored to our residents.”

It’s been a busy couple of months for Yellow Roof. On September 17, it celebrated the completion of its newest community, Brice Landing in Davis, California. Named in honor of country music artist Lee Brice and his wife Sara—longtime friends and passionate supporters of Yellow Roof—Brice Landing embodies the foundation’s “affordable-by-design” philosophy. The community includes two residences under one roof for a more economic build and greater neighborhood cohesiveness: one one-bedroom unit and one two-bedroom unit, each featuring single-car garages and enclosed yards. This model demonstrates Yellow Roof’s innovative approach to building cost-effective housing without compromising quality, comfort or community.

Founded in 2018 by Dave and Lori Sanson, owners of Concord, California-based DeNova Homes, Yellow Roof Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to building brighter futures by providing affordable rental housing opportunities for families and individuals at risk of homelessness. Its mission centers on the belief that everyone deserves a place to call home—a shelter from life’s storms where they can start fresh and hope for a better tomorrow.
