OUR STORY

Yellow Roof Foundation is a non-profit public charity.  Founded in 2018 by Dave and Lori Sanson, owners of Concord-based DeNova Homes, Inc., the Yellow Roof Foundation is working to build affordable housing opportunities for families and individuals at risk for homelessness.

Philanthropy has always been a large part of the Sansons’ personal and professional lives. They, along with top management from the DeNova team, form the Yellow Roof Foundation’s Board of Directors.  With more than 100 years of collective experience in land acquisition, land entitlement, site development, new home construction, property renovation, property management, real estate law, and real estate and construction finance, this team is prepared to help families and individuals realize better tomorrows by building and creating affordable housing opportunities today.

The Yellow Roof Foundation is also part of a larger team that will serve the needs of these individuals and families.Recognizing that it is essential to provide life skills that lead to transformational living, this Foundation has partners to assist with financial planning classes, job interview training, and other life skills courses.

OUR PLAN

The State of California is experiencing a serious housing crisis, especially in the affordable housing arena. As the lack of affordable housing has grown, so has the population at risk for homelessness.  Our desire is to assist those who are hardworking, contributing members of their community but are experiencing hard times due to circumstances beyond their control. Far too many families and individuals are barely making it, living paycheck to paycheck, or have  fallen through the cracks into the world of the “invisible homeless”; living in their cars or couch surfing while still holding down a job, going to school, or both. We believe they deserve a hand up.

Amongst other acquisition and development opportunities, our plan is to work with local jurisdictions to acquire and develop successor agency (former redevelopment) parcels to provide rental housing at very low income, or lower rental rates. Whether it is a manufactured home community or traditional multi-family design concept, our team is proficient in getting the job done and managing the operations.

Yellow Roof Foundation is also working at the state level on legislation to make the development of wholly charitable affordable housing projects more attainable. We will not leave any stone unturned in support of our mission.

OUR MISSION

At Yellow Roof Foundation, we believe in building brighter futures and better tomorrows. And we believe this all begins at home.

For some families and individuals, their American dream isn’t about owning a home. Their dream is just having a place to call home. We believe that everyone deserves a place to call home; a place that is a shelter from the storms of life, where they can find a fresh start and hope for a brighter future.

We believe we can help families and individuals achieve their aspirations for a better tomorrow by providing affordable housing opportunities in the communities where they live and work. We believe they deserve an opportunity to start over, surrounded by a community that not only wants them to succeed, but is also willing to lend them hope and extend a helping hand.

We know that having a place to call home is just the beginning. Families also need valuable life skills to help turn transitional housing into transformational living. That’s why we partner with service professionals and volunteers to provide coaching to help individuals and families develop additional life skills in financial planning, interview training and more.
